Much has been so far said about the novel coronavirus and we can’t afford to further cloud the discussion. So much fear, despair, death and carnage recorded and conceived by many.
Green Shield Safety would rather sell hope in these times. Yes, “hope”. It was Nelson Mandela who said, “May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears”.
In the past weeks, we might have recorded lost time, lost man-hour, a slide in projections, stagnation, and death of someone we know or someone we love. As a person of faith, I look beyond the ordinary. I put my trust in a higher heavenly power that is higher and mightier than mine.
But then again, there is hope even in the numbers as far as coronavirus is concerned. Yes! There is hope in the numbers.
As at today, 10th April, the number of infected persons stands at 1,697,848. Certainly, this is not the number of those condemned to die.
Of the 478,950 coronavirus patients who have left the hospital, 376,254 left alive. That is over 78 percent.
In situations like this I like to count the odds in my favour, namely:
- I have a God that cares about me and is willing to protect me
- I do not yet have the virus (and I believe I would not contract it)
- Should the unfortunate happen, there is a 78% list that I am qualified to join
Everyone reading this has these very strong odds in his/her favour. Needless to add that there is a fledgling theory about how those in the malaria belt are experiencing low infection and low death rates.
Need I mention the instances where people in dire situations have been successfully treated with Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin combination? On this, I’d seriously add “Please do not self-medicate”. Consult your doctor if you feel sick.
While this episode lasts, let’s continue to keep to every recommended safety precaution. Let’s keep hope alive, as they say.
